Women Leaders Boosting Val Demings' Campaign

Val Demings has rallied veteran women leaders for help in her congressional campaign to replace U.S. Rep. Dan Webster.

Former Rollins College president Rita Bornstein will host a fund-raiser at her home for Demings on Nov. 16. Also hosting the event will be former Orange County Mayor Linda Chapin and former congresswoman and one-time presidential candidate Patricia Shroeder.

Shroeder represented Colorado’s 1st Congressional District from 1973-97, and mounted a brief campaign in the 1998 presidential election. She now lives in Celebration, and in 2010 supported then-U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson against Webster. Grayson lost, but is running again — this time for the new House seat expected as a result of redistricting.

Demings, a former Orlando police chief, raised about $190,000 for her campaign in the 8th District over the past three months, according to her most recent finance report. Webster raised $146,000. Grayson, whose district boundaries are not yet drawn, brought in $416,000. You can read more about that here.
