On Tuesday morning former Orlando Police Chief and Candidate for Congress Val Demings, toured a women’s health care center to learn more about the services provided to women at these facilities. She also called our Republicans and Florida Governor Rick Scott on recent measures regarding reproductive health
“Today I toured a women’s health facility in Central Florida. It was encouraging to see firsthand the work this women’s health care center is doing for women who cannot afford to receive access to these necessary and life-saving services.” said Demings “It’s troubling to see Republicans across the country, including Governor Rick Scott here in Florida, passing sweeping anti-abortion laws and trying to defund organizations that offer essential and preventative health services for women.”
Scott recently signed legislation that essentially defunded Planned Parenthood clinics in the state and added requirements for Doctors that perform abortions in Florida. Because of patient confidentiality measures, no pictures or video were available from the event.
Demings is running for Congress in the recently redrawn 10th district. Other candidates running in the high-profile Democratic primary include State Senator Geraldine Thompson, former FDP Chair Bob Poe, and Attorney Fatima Fahmy. Incumbent Republican Daniel Webster has announced he’s running in the 11th district this November.
“Politicians do not need to be involved in these personal decisions. These decisions need to remain between a woman, her doctor and her faith.” Demings adds “I will continue to stand with women and work hard to protect their rights to receive access to affordable health care, birth control, and potentially life-saving cancer screenings. I will also work hard to protect federal funding for these facilities that offer these services.”
