On Friday, former Orlando Police Chief and Candidate for Congress in the 10th District, Val Demings announced an endorsement from Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords PAC “Americans for Responsible Solutions”
“Val Demings is the best person in this race to fight for the responsible steps we need to help keep guns out of the hands of dangerous people, prevent gun tragedies, and make Florida families safer,” said Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and Captain Mark Kelly in a joint statement. “We know that Val will be a tireless champion for the vocal majority of Floridians who are calling on our leaders to do more to reduce gun violence.
Giffords is a victim of gun violence. In 2011, she was shot in her home district in Tuscon, Arizona during a constituent event. She has since left office to lead the fight against gun violence. Demings will join Giffords and Captain Kelly next week here in Orlando to kick-off the 2016 “Vocal Majority Tour.” a 12-state, six-week tour is an effort to mobilize Americans to have this election be a referendum on gun violence prevention.
“I’m honored to earn the endorsement of Americans for Responsible Solutions and excited to welcome Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and Captain Mark Kelly to Orlando” said Val Demings. “I have long admired the work ARS and Congresswoman Giffords are doing in the fight for gun safety, and I think it sends a loud message to Congress that they are kicking their tour off here, the site of the deadliest mass shooting in the United States. We know an overwhelming majority of Americans want to see stronger gun safety measures, and this election we need them to make their voices heard. Aren’t we tired of hearing the words Mass Shooting in America.”
