Demings Campaign Launches Video to Honor Juneteenth Holiday
Orlando — Congresswoman Val Demings, Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate, released a campaign video to honor Juneteenth. Demings joined with the majority of Congress to honor the celebration of freedom for the enslaved as a federal holiday.
“When we talk about Juneteenth, we are talking about America’s history because this nation was built by the blood, sweat, and tears of every race who has been blessed and privileged to help build this great nation,” Demings said in the video. “And when we think about freedom in this country, it is the foundation on which we build everything.
“My father, what he fought for and worked hard for culminates with me in this run for the U.S. Senate. Let’s move forward and become the America that we were created to be. And so, part of the important work that we do, as we celebrate Juneteenth, is to make sure that freedom is in front of us, and not just the day behind us,” Demings added.
Congresswoman Demings was Orlando’s first female Chief of Police after serving over two decades in law enforcement. She has represented the 10th Congressional District in Florida since 2017.< Back to all News
