Demings Blasts Rubio For Holding Up Funds for Military and Risking Government Shutdown
ORLANDO — Senator Rubio is single-handedly blocking the path forward on the National Defense Authorization Act, and is opposing bipartisan efforts to fund the federal government. Rubio is engaged in a dangerous and shameful effort to score political points on the backs of military personnel, career public servants, and the millions of Floridians who rely on critical government services.
Senator Rubio has missed over a dozen committee hearings in recent months. He’s not doing his job, and when he does show up to work, it’s only to block bipartisan efforts to invest in working people.
In response, former Orlando Police Chief Val Demings, candidate for U.S. Senate, released the following statement:
“Here’s my message to Senator Rubio: either do your job or get out of the way. Florida’s senior senator needs to stop playing political games with our national security and blocking pay raises and living expense increases for our troops and their families. This week, Senator Rubio has ground our government to a halt and jeopardized our nation’s military funding and funding for our entire federal budget.
“Senator Rubio continues to miss hearing after hearing. He’s not doing his job, and when he does show up to work, it’s only to block bipartisan efforts to fund the government, support the military, and invest in working people.
“I proudly voted in Congress to pass essential funding for our nation’s military two months ago. It is shameful that Senator Rubio is playing political games and refusing to deliver our troops the support they need. Do your job, Senator.”< Back to all News
